Prof.dr.ir. J.W.F. Wamelink

Real Estate & Housing (REH) | Design & Construction Management
Chair of Design & Construction Management

Hans Wamelink (born in 1963) has been a full professor of Project Management since 2006. He concentrates primarily on the collaboration between the various parties involved in the building process, the relationship between costs and quality, and operational issues in the development and completion phases of construction projects. The main thrusts of the Chair's research are design management and building process innovation. A significant push has emerged in recent years in the Netherlands for changes in the construction process. Poor communications are a frequent cause of problems in the building industry and often result in extra costs being incurred. Wamelink is carrying out research into what kind of tools could be used to reduce these high costs. In addition, he is engaged in research into new types of contracts that would make it easier for parties to work together differently. Wamelink would also like to compare the problems of the Dutch construction industry with similar and other industries in other countries in order to gain fresh insights. He regards teaching students how they can better manage the entire building process using relatively simple rules as a challenge. The Chair organises teaching in both Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.

As well as his work as a professor, Wamelink is the managing director of Infocus, a firm specialising in consultancy and project management. After studying civil engineering in Delft, he spent ten years working as a teacher and researcher at the faculty of Technology Management at TU Eindhoven. At present he is a member of the programme board of the Stichting Bouwresearch foundation.
