Research
Research
The research within the department of Real Estate & Housing aims to develop and test scientific theories and tools, based on empirical data collection, which can be used to steer and support the best possible fit between supply of real estate with the dynamic demand for accommodating people. The demand side is approached primarily from a user's perspective.
Research programme
The research projects are included in two main research programmes:
The RE&H research programme includes research into market analyses, performance requirements and costs and quality of real estate (i.e. the product side) and research into initiating, briefing, developing, design, construction and use of real estate (the process side). Research is undertaken on three levels of scale: buildings, stock (i.e. portfolio), and urban areas. The research is oriented to the construction of utilities, dwellings and urban infrastructure.
Research Question
The main research question is:
How development, design, construction, management and restructuring processes take their course, and how processes and performance of utility buildings, dwellings, and urban areas can be improved.
Research methods used are among others: architectural analysis, analysis of policy and decision-making processes, ex ante and ex post evaluation of buildings and urban areas, computer modelling and scenario techniques. Knowledge and concepts are used from the building sciences, social sciences and management sciences.
