Prof. dr. ir. arch. I.S. Sariyildiz

Building Technology (BT) | Structural Design
Chair of Technical Design and Informatics

Sevil Sariyildiz (born in 1957 in Turkey) has been a full professor of Technical Design and Informatics at the faculty since 1993. The Chair focuses on methods, techniques and tools of information, communication and knowledge technology (ICKT) for the building sector. Soft computing technologies is being used for qualitative and quantitative aspects of design for the “performance evaluation” where the subjective aspects such as perception, privacy, comfort, safety can be measured in virtual environment.

Besides, her chair develops tools for collaborative engineering and Virtual Design Studios (virtual environment in which all the parties in a construction team collaborate), 3D CAD/CAM applications, 3D design software applications and the generation of 3D prototypes where the research output is directly put into education. Students work together internationally in Virtual Design Studios and can keep a logbook and portfolio in Infobase, the web-based collaborative environment for working in groups and e-learning, developed by the Chair. Sariyildiz and her team gives education on the above mentioned subjects in the whole Bsc and Msc semesters, she gives lectures on the fundaments and applications of ICKT in the design and construction process. The Chair also teaches programming, enabling students to build small applications themselves as supplements to existing applications.

Sariyildiz studied architecture and building technology in Istanbul, Darmstadt and Delft got PhD in Delft, and participated on many national and international councils and committees. In addition to her work as a professor, she is the head of the Building Technology department at the faculty of Architecture and the acting rector magnificus for the conferral of doctorates. She is presently the founder and chair of the TULIP project for the collaboration with Turkish Technical Universities and the TU Delft. She is also the founder and (till may 2008) chair of the Delft Women in Science (DEWIS) network.  She is a practicing architect.
