Bouwkunde: Architecture and the Built Environment

The Research Portfolio Architecture and the Built Environment aims to play a key role in our own region, the western part of The Netherlands and subsequently to develop a strong international presence, on the back of the reputation of Dutch architecture and spatial planning and the significance of the Randstad as a predominant European region.

Strengths in this portfolio can be found in:

• healthy, energy efficient, comfortable buildings in social inclusive neighbourhoods
• modelling and performance in architecture, building technology and urban development
• design and strategies for the urban society
• research by design and mapping in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design
• managing complexities of the built environment
• historical, cultural and theoretical underpinning.

The portfolio includes seven Research Groups.
