Four-year programme
Join a four-year programme, based on a mix of your research, learning discipline and generic skills, and on-the-job-training.
Programme
We expect you to conduct your research and deliver your PhD thesis within a four-year programme. You are required to obtain 45 Graduate School Credits. Your study load is 15 GS credits a year, considering your last year will be spent completing your thesis. A+BE offers you the possibility to obtain these credits through specific courses, learning discipline and generic skills, and through research-related on the job activities. TU Delft offers a range of in-house courses. The introduction course and the career-orientation course are mandatory. You can choose the other courses at your discretion, in consultation with your supervisors. You have at your disposal an annual budget of €1250 that allows you to visit conferences or to follow courses provided by third parties.
Progress
Your progress is tracked by 5 reviews:
Review A | After 3 months you present your training and supervisor plan; |
Review B | After 9 or 12 months you present a full proposal and a first proof of research/design; |
Review C/D/E | After review B you will take part in yearly progress reviews |
You close your PhD research off with a doctoral defence ceremony.
Product
The final product of your PhD research is a thesis or a collection of five scientific articles that are published in peer-reviewed journals that are indexed in ISI and/or Scopus.
Supervision team
Your main supervisor is a professor at TU Delft. If your professor doesn't hold a PhD-title him/herself, then you are required to add a co-supervisor to your supervision team that does have a PhD-title.
In addition to the main supervisor a daily supervisor may be assigned to you. The daily supervisor also holds a PhD.
Personal budget
As a PhD student you are entitled to an annual budget of €1250 (for a maximum of four years). This budget can be spent on courses and on conferences, including travel. Your department makes this budget available.
The Graduate School A+BE offers to publish your PhD thesis simultaneously as printing-on-demand book, e-book and an interactive PDF and will cover the costs for this.
