Dr. A. (Akkelies) van Nes

Function

I am a full-time assistant professor working at the Chair of Spatial Planning and Strategy within the Department of Urbanism of the Faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology. I defended my PhD thesis in 2002, on road building and urban change at the Department of Land Use and Landscape Planning, University of Life Sciences in Norway. My current research interests vary from urban renewal, planning theory, spatial modeling (space syntax research), developing spatial analyses tools, urban morphology, place phenomenology, space and crime, urban centrality, rural development, archaeology, to road building and urban change. I teach spatial modeling and research methods, I supervise students of the Masters Course of the Department of Urbanism, and I am co-promoter of PhD candidates of Prof. Vincent Nadin’s Chair.

Urban renewal, developing and applying spatial analyses tools (urban morphology, space syntax, ect.) to apply them in strategic planning, space and crime in problem neighbourhoods, planning theory, rural development, the mobility net and urban centrality, application of spatial tools in archaeological research.
