Introduction
Tony Fretton Architects is based in London.
Principal buildings by the office are the Lisson Gallery in London, Artsway centre for visual art at Sway in Hampshire, the Quay Arts centre for visual and performing arts in the Isle of Wight, Holton Lee in Dorset- a rural arts centre specifically for artists with disabilities, the Camden Art Centre in London and a low energy building for the storage and display of the Arts Council collection of Sculpture at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
The office designed the exhibitions ‘Claes Oldenburg: an Anthology’ and Spellbound: Art and Film’ at the Hayward Gallery in London
Recent buildings include the Red House in Tite Street Chelsea London for a private art collector and an apartment building in the historic centre of Groningen in the Netherlands.
The practice is currently designing the new British Embassy and residence in Warsaw Poland, which is due for completion in 2006.
The work of the practice has been exhibited in group shows in Bolzano, Antwerp and Sao Paulo, and in the exhibitions -Tony Fretton Architects: A retrospective: RIBA London 2001 and Architecture Experience and Thought at the Architectural Association London 1998.
Monographs were published on the work of the practice in 2001 by A+T Spain and in 1995 by Editorial Gustavo Gili SA Barcelona.
Tony Fretton was a Unit Master at the Architectural Association, School in London from 1988-1992, visiting Professor at the Berlage Institute Amsterdam and the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in 1994-96.
Since 1999 he has been Professor, Chair of Architectural Design and Interiors at the TU Delft the Netherlands.
